Finding Your Path: Embracing the Journey of Entrepreneurship

Happy Saturday,

Have you ever found yourself questioning your path, taking a step back for some much-needed introspection? That was me just last week, and it’s the reason I decided to skip a post.

Dean recently started a new program called the Beginners Advantage. I’ve talked about it before in this previous blog post:

But it basically is all about finding a niche you love and resonate with, making content, and growing an audience organically.

Recognizing that social media and YouTube are game changers right now, these platforms hold immense power, allowing people to monetize by posting content and engaging with others on the site.

This opens up an incredible opportunity to do something you love and make money.

For platforms like TikTok, once you get to 1K followers, you can put a clickable link in your bio, and depending on where you live, that 1K or sometimes 5K can open up other abilities, like being able to sell stuff on the TikTok shop, which can be a great source of income.

I have been playing with TikTok a lot, and it is really fun. If you are new but nervous about trying it out, watch this video where I show you how to post and edit right on your phone!

If you want to turn a passion into your career, then TikTok and YouTube are two platforms to consider.

I want to say something really quickly here. To be honest, when someone told me to turn a passion into money, I was like, I really don’t have anything I am passionate about.

If you are looking for a niche, try this exercise: sit down, take out a piece of paper, and wright down all the things you are passionate about, want to learn, or pain points that you need to overcome.

Out of this list, what can you see yourself doing for a long time?

Let’s rephrase that: What do you want to make content about? Something that you can commit to making content and posting consistently for months and years. Lastly, you need to ask yourself, can it be monetized.

For me, this was a really hard question. I spent almost two weeks just digesting it. I am thinking about what I love making content about.

I love learning things and sharing what I have learned with others. If I can teach you the path to millions, that would be my dream. I have been enjoying my weekly blog posts and creating longer how-to videos to help you along your journey. But I haven’t found my short-form video grove yet.

My affiliate marketing TikTok was started on 12/23/2024. I have posted a total of 216 videos and have only 124 followers and 1,940 likes. I think my videos need a lot of work. They are not following the recipe and often don’t start with a hook. They are a hot mess, and I need to rethink and plan them out better.

I thought maybe I needed a little break, but my body wouldn’t let me.  I can’t help it, I am now addicted to TikTok.  I find myself grabbing for my phone, wanting to make a post, and feeling bad when I don’t do at least one post a day. It has become a habit. And I don’t necessarily want to break this habit.

So, I have also decided to play around with TikTok. But not in the way you think.

This is where my ADHD reared its ugly head – or is it a superpower? Lol.

I have started a TikTok called BaxandBenny. I have two adorable cats. One of my closest friends and business partner for my real estate business rescued them during the fires in Northern California in 2020. These two girls showed up on her driveway one morning.

They were my lifeline during COVID-19, and I even wrote two children’s books about them as I believe their purrs are magical and healing. My boyfriend and I joke around that they have Purr Power.

You can check out those books here if you would like. They are on audible as well! The narrator did a great job!

I posted my first video on 9/8, and since then, I have posted 21 more videos. I have been posting daily and having so much fun with it.  Because, let’s be honest, who doesn’t want to look at Kitty videos and I love creating them?

I have learned a ton about TikTok through this process, and I have gotten really good at editing videos and sound clips and using all the bells and whistles TikTok has available.

I have 170 followers as of the time I am writing this and over 2,014 likes.

My plan is to create an Amazon page for them with all their favorite toys and treats, promote the liter robot that we use and allow us to go away for about four days and leave them together to rule the place! Once I get to 1K followers, this link will be clickable in the bio!

I believe when you truly love something and are excited about it, people will know. I really enjoy creating the videos, and my iPhone 15 is paying off with its cinematic mode!

To really grow your TikTok channel, you need to engage with other people’s posts.

That means watching other people’s videos in your niche, commenting, sharing, reposting…So keep this in mind when starting your business. Do you really want to spend an hour a day watching content about this niche?

As you reflect on your own journey, I encourage you to take a moment to explore what truly excites you. If you’re considering starting a business or diving deeper into your passions, I’ve created a Beginner’s Guide with step-by-step instructions to help you build from the ground up.

  1. Hi, Alison!
I thought you were so busy you could form a business around your beloved cats, and you’ve gone and done it!
Congratulations! I can see you being very successful at it because you have such a passion for them, and it will be contagious. And you’ll learn a ton about the process while you go about it. It’s a great idea! I’m happy for you 🙂

  2. Hi Alison,

I really enjoyed reading this post, and it’s so true, sometimes you have to take a step back and reflect on what needs improvement, and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. It’s part of the process! Posting about your adorable kitties is such a great idea, who doesn’t love seeing cute animal content? That always brings a smile to people’s faces.

The process of gaining followers can definitely be time consuming, but I’ve found a little trick that helps when you’re engaging with posts: if you want to get through a video quickly, just hold your finger on the top right corner, and it speeds the video up 2x, letting you watch it faster but still count as a full view. It’s a time-saver and helps keep your engagement up! Keep going, you’re doing great!

  3. I can relate to you and your cats!! And TikTok!! It’s a great platform! I can’t believe it but I am 3 followers away from 500! Onward from this point with the intention of thoroughly enjoying the journey!

  4. Hi Alison – This is greatness! Not only was your video helpful but your content in this blog was so informative. I’ve taken a break from creating TikTok videos, not because I’m lazy, but because I really just didn’t know what to say or how to say it in a meaningful and informative way. I really enjoy using humor and telling stories but need to find a way to weave that in my making money online niche. After listening to you, few other friends we have in common, and Dean I decided that I’m going to start TikTok again. Thank you for your continued motivation and for their presence online and for your constant encouragement.
