Happy Saturday,
This week, I have been focusing on TikTok.
Have you been using TikTok?
It seems like an amazing opportunity for the everyday person to really make money online while having fun on the journey. No financial investment is needed—just you, your iPhone, and maybe a microphone and some good lighting.
In my blog last week I did recognize that monetizing on a platform like TikTok is a short term goal and we should keep the long-term goal of building a business that includes an email list and having our owned asset that we direct traffic too.
But going all in on TikTok is a great way to learn how to make videos and how to look at analytics to make decisions.
By posting every day, sometimes multiple times a day on TikTok, I am learning so much about making video s, how to utilize the features of editing on TikTok, and templates in Capcut.
So here are a few things I want to share because it can get frustrating.
- It is important to focus on what we are learning and not the number of views. Don’t assume a video didn’t do well because you are stuck in the 200s. I have been going through this a little lately. You post a bunch of videos, and your followers are inching along. This makes it hard to stay positive and keep going, but you just have to be consistent. Don’t get disappointed or discouraged that the views are only crawling. Think not about the number of views but all the skills you are learning.
- Use clear descriptions on your videos. When you load a video into TikTok, it gives you the opportunity to describe the video right on it, do this. You have another opportunity in the text portion. This lets the algorithm know what your videos are all about and helps TikTok know who to show your content to. That why it also important to try and stick to one niche when posting content.
- Every day is a new day. If you look at the analytics, you will see that most of the things people see come from there for you page =fyp. TikTok sees how people react to video (engagement), and then TikTok will keep sharing your content with people if their engagement is high. This means a few things: 1. Most of the time, someone is seeing your content for the first time, so each video is a new opportunity 2. You can recycle content. In fact, it is great to make the same message in multiple ways; you can take the same content idea and try different hooks; one video is shorter, one longer, and one has just a checklist, presenting the same material in different ways.
- Video structure is really important. I have talked about this a lot in previous posts, so check out this blog post that breaks it down. You need to nail the hook. The most important thing in your video is the hook. In the first 3 seconds, you need to make them stop the scroll. The hook is so important, and that’s why you continue to practice. Make more and more videos with the intention aimed at mastering the video structure and creation. If you don’t nail the hook, no one will ever reach your call to action.
- Lastly, you can use a tactic to get people to follow you by making a video series. You create intrigue, so people want to see the content that is coming. For example: On September 8th, I started this TikTok channel with 0 followers, I knew nothing of what I was doing and managed to get to 1k followers in just two weeks! Over the next few videos, I will show you what I did to get there.
So don’t get frustrated. Keep going, and remember the famous Bruce Lee Quote: “The man with 1000 kicks is much more skilled than the man who did 1000 kicks one time.”
People are making serious money on TikTok as affiliates, and now, TikTok is pairing up with Amazon. There is no time like the present to jump on this.
The potential is huge, and you get to learn and practice how to make engaging, captivating content.
If you are into multiple niches or just want to create an account to do some research and play, you can have multiple TikTok accounts. I actually have 3 – lol. Are you surprised?
The formula for all niches are the same regardless of which market you go into.

Hi Alison! This is such great information and these are very good tips. I appreciate you posting them as I had been struggling with how I can continue with TikTok in a successful manner. It’s not out of laziness but just out of wondering what works and what doesn’t work, and your blog post is motivating. I especially like the part about recycling from older videos to make them better and probably add a different twist. I am a novice and this post really helped me think about where I want to be with this platform and how I can get to perform at a high level. Thank you so much!
